Official 2- day training course from the CITB – of which we are an accredited member and an approved training provider.
Course aims to update as well as refresh your knowledge and understanding of the principle responsibilities of a Site Manager, and the skills needed to maintain a safe and healthy working environment for everyone on your site.
The SMSTS certificate is valid for 5 years after the initial course was completed, if you are unsure of when your certificate expires you can find the expiry date on your certificate underneath the course completion date, if you are not able to check your certificate you can use the CITB card checker to find out the relevant information. Please click here to go to the CITB card checker site. All CITB certification expires at the end of the month regardless of the date the course was completed on.
We recommend booking your refresher course at least 30 days before the expiry date.
If your certificate has expired, you will need to complete the 5-day SMSTS course again.
Course objectives/outcomes
- The Health & Safety Executives updated main focuses
- Risk assessment and method statements (RAMS)
- Health, safety and welfare on construction sites
- RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations)
- Behavioural safety
- Occupational health
- Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction.
Course Requirements
- Photographic ID
- Good understanding of spoken and written English – translation aids are not premitted.
- Delegates under 18 years of age require parental/guardian consent
CITB Levy Payers
To allow for the automated process of claiming back your training grant, please ensure that the delegates/s attending have the company Levy number and enter the number on the relevant section of the course paperwork on the day of the course. If this information is not entered companies will need to do a retrospective claim themselves.

Q: My initial SMSTS certification has expired, can I attend the refresher course?
A:
Unfortunately you cannot, if your SMSTS certification has expired you will need to undertake the full 5 day SMSTS course again. We advise booking onto a SMSTS Refresher course at least 30 days before your certification expires to ensure you can renew your certification.

Q: When does my SMSTS certification expire?
A:
All CITB certification expires 5 years from the end of the month the initial course was completed. For example if you completed a course on 05.01.2022 your certification would expire on 31.01.2027.
