If you have 1 to 6 delegates you can attend one of our open or public training courses.
We can open a private course or organise training on site from 3 to 6 delegates.
When working in confined spaces (CS) workers can become trapped or overcome by fumes, vapours, poisonous or explosive gases.
Avoidable accidents happen in a wide range of industries as CS are not just tanks, vessels or chambers – spaces do not have to be totally enclosed to be considered ‘confined’.
This course is about working in CS environments where there is a medium risk that a specified hazard may be present with also focusing on the time taken to evacuate increases risk to entrants. It will require the use of escape breathing apparatus.
Employers must identify if a work activity, hazards and area of work is, or should be classed as a CS. Anyone working in a CS must be properly trained.
Course includes:
- H&S Laws & Regulations relating to CS
- Responsibilities of employers and employees
- Definitions and types of CS
- Hazards and risks – necessary precautions required
- Understanding safe systems of work with particular reference to ‘permits to work’ where appropriate
- To work safely in medium risk CS
- Emergency procedures
- Prepare and use escape breathing apparatus in accordance with manufacturers instructions
- Practical session demonstrating safe exit procedures where delegates use breathing apparatus and 20mtr rescue winch.
- Test paper/ questions/ handouts and review
There is a practical element to the course – delegates require their PPE which must include a hard hat, hi-viz top, hard boots. Breathing apparatus is supplied.
From the start of 2022 delegates will receive a digital certificate and a PDF of their I.D card, hard copies and I.D cards will no longer be issued. This will significantly reduce the wait time for certification and delegates will be able to share and store their certification more securely. This is part of our ambition to be net zero.

People whose job role involves entering a CS, and their overseers to help them understand the dangers, how to use safe systems of work and to how to put adequate emergency procedures in place.

Robert England
Robert is our Senior Confined Space Trainer and he is our chosen expert in the subject, not only for his specialist subject but also for his great sense of humour.
Having spent 30 years of his career working for the Mines Rescue Service as well as the Fire Service, Robert has all the necessary qualifications and experience to train your team. Because he has walked the walk, he can talk the talk and his real life stories from site will help your delegates to relate to the course, and take the serious messages away with them, making it easier for you to implement a sound health & safety culture in your business.

Course feedback
A very important course and some crucial awareness. The course was presented extremley well by the trainer Rob. Rob made the course engaging and interesting.
Now fully competant in CS and can work in a safe manner - the training delivered was A*
Attended this course in Sept '20, the course was very impressive. The Covid-19 measures put in place were excellant each person was sat 2 metres apart with clear tape seperating each delegate, there was plenty of space to move around in, clear signage and the staff regularly sanitized the refreshment area & touch points. The Covid policy was easy to follow. Great training experience.
